The term has two distinct commutive meanings: 1) usually refers to a social unit larger than a small village that shares common values, and the term can also refer to the national community or international community.
In human communities, intent, belief, resources, preferences, needs, risks, and a number of other conditions may be present and common, affecting the identity of the participants and their degree of cohesiveness.
One Love, echoes the meaning of a community. A meeting place, and the coming together of the people. A place where people are accepted and supported, both as a recipient and a contributor. Below outlines some of the symbolism within "One Love" to reflect values of the Dorset Park Hub.
TREE:
Represents a well rooted and strong foundation. Some of the people who will use the services offered at the Hub are designed within the bark. There is strength in numbers and diversity offers options. The bottom panels show the roots, and they are inter-twined, inter-connected, again representing a well-built rooted foundation.
AUTUMN LEAVES:
Autumn leaves mean the season is changing, a renew. Fall leaves are colourful and reflect the beautiful colours of the community. There are hands both open and clasped. The clasped hands suggest something special about to bloom and adds mystery of the unknown.
7 Panels:
7 is a powerful number and represents a spiritual quest of enlightenment, and time of introspection. It is also thought to be lucky. Collective panels making up a whole is much like quilt work. Quilts were often the cooperative work of many in a community.
DOVES:
On both sides of the centre tree trunk, there are doves. Doves are an international symbol of peace and the white dove within the red circle, red & white - represents Canada.
Blue Border:
The 7 panels are bordered with blue. Chakra are energy points within our body, and blue is the throat chakra for communication.
Clear Border:
The piece is outlined with a clear border that frames the 7 panels collectively. This strengthens the coming together of various cultures and people.
CHAIN:
Chains, and the links of a chain echo strength in numbers. Each person is a valuable link to the success of the Hub. The stronger the involvement and diversity of its people, the more that can be overcome and victorious.
Circles, Night Sky & Sunrise:
Half circles line up to the next panel that make a whole circle. Again, much like the coming together of many people when working together, can triumph. The idea of night and day rolled over and over, suggests the continuance of time...eternity.
